Nicola López works across drawing, printmaking, site-specific installation, sculpture, and video to examine and reconfigure contemporary landscapes. Her practice highlights the intersections and tensions between human-constructed environments and the cycles of the natural world, drawing from anthropology, architecture, urban planning, and utopian/dystopian imaginaries.

López’s work has been exhibited internationally and is held in numerous institutional collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Museo Rufino Tamayo in Mexico City. She is the recipient of prestigious awards and fellowships, among them a Guggenheim Fellowship and support from the Joan Mitchell Foundation.

The Guest Artist in Print Program, founded in 1979, invites leading contemporary artists to UT Austin for a one-week residency to develop new projects in collaboration with faculty and students. Past participants include Luis Camnitzer, Squeak Carnwath, Karl Wirsum, and Judith Linhares. In addition to fostering a vibrant culture of studio engagement, GAPP expands the dialogue around contemporary print and the broader field of art practice.
