Alumna Virginia Lee Montgomery (BFA in Studio Art, 2008) has a solo exhibition of new work, Sky Loop, on view at the Lawndale Art Center in Houston, Texas. Created in response to the devastation experienced by Houston residents after Hurricane Harvey in 2017, Sky Loop features a film incorporating a range of footage, including footage of the hurricane as Montgomery weathered the storm with her mother to footage shot from her studio and alongside the Buffalo Bayou. Montgomery use of Houston-specific symbols, creates an abstract representation of Hurricane Harvey. Combined, these elements form a multi-disciplinary project that introduces a new direction for Montgomery and presents a new perspective on a global tragedy.
Sky Loop will be on view at the Lawndale Art Center from January 18 – March 22, 2020.
