Each spring, as part of the 20+ year Viewpoint Lecture Series, the department hosts a pair of leading art critics or curators for lectures, critiques, and seminars during three interactions with the UT Austin campus community over the course of the semester.

Sohrab Mohebbi is the current Director of SculptureCenter in Long Island City, New York. Prior to SculptureCenter, he was the Kathe and Jim Patrinos Curator of the 2022-23 58th Carnegie International. He was also the associate curator at REDCAT in Los Angeles and a curatorial fellow at the Queens Museum. Mohebbi is an advisor at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam and has organized various exhibitions and programs for the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN; High Desert Test Sites, Joshua Tree, CA; SALT, Istanbul; and the Center for Historical Reenactments, Johannesburg, South Africa. In addition, he’s organized solo exhibitions of the work of Banu Cennetoğlu, Fiona Connor, Tishan Hsu, Hassan Khan, John Knight, and Falke Pisano. Mohenni received an MA from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College and a BFA in photography from Tehran Art University. In 2012 was the recipient of a grant from the Creative Capital | Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Program for his blog, presencedocuments.
Ana Janevski is a curator in the Department of Media and Performance. She has organized more than 30 performances by artists including Yvonne Rainer, Simone Forti, Trajal Harrell, Boris Charmatz, Jérôme Bel, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, and Rabih Mroué, among others. She has also been involved in the programming of MoMA’s Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Studio, where she curated Nora Turato: pool 5 (2022), Studio Residency: Okwui Okpokwasili (2022), David Tudor and Composers Inside Electronics Inc.: Rainforest V (variation 1) (2019), and Sung Hwan Kim: Temper Clay (2021, with Martha Joseph). Currently she is preparing a retrospective of Joan Jonas that opens to the public in March 2024. In addition, she co-organized several exhibitions at MoMA including Judson Dance Theater: The Work Is Never Done (2018), with Thomas (T.) Jean Lax and Martha Joseph; Scenes for a New Heritage: Contemporary Art from the Collection (2016), with Eva Respini and Sarah Suzuki; and Projects 100: Akram Zaatari (2103), with Eva Respini. From 2007 to 2011, Janevski held the position of curator at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, where she curated, among many other projects, the large-scale exhibition and accompanying publication As Soon As I Open My Eyes I See a Film, which focused on Yugoslav experimental film and art from the 1960s and 1970s (2011). She regularly contributes to and co-edits publications on performance, the body, and the history of art in Eastern Europe. Janevski received her MPhil at L’École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) in Paris and her MA at Sorbonne Nouvelle University Paris 3.
