MASA, a design project and gallery space located in Mexico City, is opening its inaugural exhibition Collective/Collectible on February 6. The exhibition features 12 contemporary artists, including current MFA candidate Jerónimo Reyes-Retana, Pedro Reyes and Frida Escobedo, and four studios presenting work that interprets the question: “What does it mean to be ‘from somewhere.’”

With works exploring the artists’ sense of place, Collective/Collectible displays large scale installations highlighting traditional Mexican materials, a selection of contemporary artwork and written works describing the history of Mexico. Collective/Collectible features designers, artists and architects showcasing diverse work--contemporary and historical--that shapes Mexico’s art scene.

“The exhibition extends the diverse and rich artistic legacy in Mexico, where the definition of design is as broad and varied as the number of people who practice it,” said Su Wu and Constanza Garza of MASA.

Collective/Collectible will be on view through April 13, 2019.
