Bio

Munevver Ozdemir received her BA in History and her MA in the History of Art, Architecture, and Visual Studies from Boğaziçi University. Her MA thesis, “Maritime Fortifications of Arwad and Alanya from the Eleventh to the Fourteenth Centuries: Liminal Shores,” examines medieval maritime architecture through the lens of liminality and strategic coastal defense. Her research focuses on the art and architecture of the medieval Eastern Mediterranean and Anatolia, with particular interest in coastal cities, maritime architecture, urban networks in medieval Islamic cities, and women’s patronage in architectural contexts. She is currently a PhD student at the University of Texas at Austin.
